On Friday, March 28, Jamie underwent surgery to remove a large cancerous tumor. After 9 1/2 hours of surgery, that tumor was successfully removed. Husband Courtney is very hopeful as Jamie continues to recover and undergo further treatment at UCSF Hospital in San Francisco. On Sunday afternoon, Jamie was moved out of the Intensive Care Unit into regular in-patient care at the hospital.
Champion XTERRA Athlete faces toughest battle yet
Jamie Whitmore is no stranger to a tough challenge. You don't become the 2007 XTERRA USA Champion, 2004 XTERRA World Champion and 2003/04 XTERRA European champion without a good fight.
On Friday, February 29, 2008 Jamie started the toughest challenge of her life as she entered the University of California San Francisco Medical Center where she's undergoing tests for a tumor found on her left pelvis.
Doctors anticipate Jamie can return to her home in the Sacramento region later this week as she awaits test results. She's taking solace in her favorite quote: I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. - Philippians 4:13
Always the optimist, Jamie stated, "I've entered the challenge of my life and I will finish strong.'
